Name Your Price
The Bone Pile
June 29, 2006
What's happening T-Boners? Welcome back. I am in a much better mood
than last week now that I have accepted a new position. Thank you to
everyone who emailed me with job opportunities and to those just wishing
me luck. I got in with a company at just the right time. It is a great
opportunity and I am looking forward to starting next week. I actually have
to fly to New Jersey for some training and socializing with the people at
headquarters. I like how the word headquarters sounds, like I'm off to meet
with the Justice League or something. Random, I know.
I was watching a show on TV this week and I heard that there was some
backlash in the U.K. against Madonna. And for once, the backlash didn't
come from her being all skanky or sacrilegious. This time it was for her
tickets ranging as high as $200 per ticket. Correct me if I am wrong, but
wasn't Madonna's heyday in the late 80's or perhaps the 90's? It's 2006
and I cannot tell you the last single she came out with. I know she got
really slutty at some benefit concert last year. And a few years before that
she got some press for making out with Britney Spears at the MTV Music
Awards, or some show like that. She was a spokesperson for GAP at the
time and they dropped her for that little moment in history. Madonna is not
getting any younger and most of her antics are not getting her any new
fans. As her past fans start to mature, she is just pushing them away one
by one. There is no way she can justify tickets at $200 a piece.
I did a little research online and see that you can go to the Family Values
Tour and see more than 5 bands, including Korn, Def Tones, and Stone
Sour, with the most expensive ticket being $48.50. So I can go see
numerous bands, still making good music today, for a quarter of the price
that Madonna wants? Again, someone needs to reevaulate their own
worth.
I went to the Metallica and Godsmack concert about a year and a half ago
and I don't think tickets were more than $70 a piece. That sounds like a
hefty price compared to the Family Values concert considering that it is
only 2 bands. But this was a different venue and Metallica can do
whatever they want. They are legendary in concert and with an opening
act like Godsmack, it was well worth every penny.
Here is the best comparison I can come up with. Ozzfest's most expensive
tickets are $150. That seems like a lot of money for a concert. There are
20 bands playing at Ozzfest and the concert lasts all day. It is more like
the circus coming to town. Many legendary bands have played at Ozzfest
in the past, such as Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Korn,
Slayer, Rob Zombie, Pantera, Godsmack, Tool, Megadeth, and even
Danzig. For many bands, Ozzfest is a stepping stone to get noticed. In
actuality, for Sharon Osbourne to notice you, you are probably already on
your way to great things. This year's lineup has Ozzy, System of a Down,
Disturbed, and Avenged Sevenfold, to name a few. Again, tickets are $50
less than Madonna's solo show.
Ok, I'll get off how much Madonna sucks now. Oh wait, I have to make my
mandatory Dave Matthews Band dig. His tickets are $60, but I think
anything other than giving them away are a total ripoff. Actually, you'd
have to pay me to go. Words cannot describe how much I hate his music.
Most of you know this.
I am off to Monroe, Louisiana this afternoon to revisit "the old stomping
grounds" for the evening before I make my way down to the haunted
Myrtles Plantation tomorrow. Kitty is coming with me, so she'll see the
drastic differences in what it is to go out in Dallas and to go out in Monroe.
I can't wait. Even though I will be out of town next week, I'll try to bang out
a quick column about our experiences at the Myrtles.
Until next time, throw up a "T" for...
T-BONE!

Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone (born August 16, 1958) is an American pop singer, dancer, actress and songwriter. Noted for her innovative music videos, elaborately mounted stage performances, and often controversial use of sexual and religious themes and imagery in her work, Madonna has gained worldwide fame and notoriety throughout her career.
Madonna emerged from the New York City club scene to become one of the most successful recording artists of the 1980s and 1990s. Her early work consisted mainly of dance pop music, which was often dismissed by critics despite its popularity. As her style evolved and matured, she earned respect and acclaim, culminating in her winning five Grammy Awards. Her renown as a recording artist and performer led to a variety of acting roles and a film career, which has remained secondary to her music career. In 1992, Madonna also co-founded Maverick Records, which was sold to Warner Music Group in 2004.
In 2000, The Guinness Book of Records credited Madonna as the most successful female recording artist of all time, with estimated worldwide sales of 120 million albums.[1] Her record label, Warner Bros., reported in 2005 that she had achieved international sales in excess of 200 million albums.[2] She is also the recipient of numerous awards for her music and videos and frequently referred to as 'the Queen of Pop' as well as one of the greatest pop icons.
