How stale are movies today? Considering that Miss Congeniality 2 and Beauty Shop are out right now and grossing in the top 10, I’d say repugnantly stale. Not only are producers putting out sequels to movies that weren’t that great to begin with, but the other top movies are remakes of old best sellers. Amityville Horror was #1 this week. I haven’t seen it yet, but I hear that it's pretty good. But this is a remake of the original, and there were already 2 sequels. I’m not putting Hollywood down for doing a remake. Honestly, the young people that poured into theatres this weekend probably never saw the first one. I do remember the first one, with James Brolin and Margot Kidder (of Lois Lane fame). It scared the crap out of me as a little kid. What I am putting down though is that not a lot of original stuff is coming out.
What movies are we looking forward to for this summer? Batman Begins. I’ m honestly glad to see this as the Batman legacy was driven into the ground with Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. The series needed to be trashed. Hopefully they can resurrect the type of Batman that Tim Burton envisioned. On a tangent now,
So maybe you think I’m a pessimist. I am. But not everything out there has been bad. I was disappointed in the last Harry Potter offering, but it was still a good movie and I bought the DVD. I think Bad Santa may be one of the greatest surprises that I ever had the pleasure of watching. But I did have the misfortune of watching it with my mom the first time, so my laughing at it was a bit uncomfortable at parts. I think The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has potential to be pretty good this summer. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, though.
Last time I was at the theatre, I think I saw a preview to Guess Who, so you can see that it has been awhile. But you can bet I’ll go see Amityville Horror within the next week or so. And definitely count me in for the most anticipated movie in 3 years: Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. There are links to it on just about every page on the web. Despite seeing a lot of the stills and knowing what is going to happen, my adrenaline is still amped up about going to see it.
Until next time…thow up a T for….

Movie Reruns
there’s a 2006 tentative release date for
Superman Returns. The only actor in
the movie worth mentioning is Kevin
Spacey, who will play Lex Luthor. Spacey
is great, but it’s hard to top Gene
Hackman. And here’s something we can
all agree on. In every person’s mind,
Christopher Reeve is Superman. When
you think of Superman, you picture
Reeve, not Dean Cain. And Dean Cain
was Superman only a decade ago.
Brandon Routh is playing the next
Superman. Who? That’s what I said. So
I had to look it up and he’s been in some
real turds like Gilmore Girls, One Life
to Live, and MTV’s Undressed. I’m not
getting a warm fuzzy feeling about this
one.
HERO
to
ZERO
And I’m not one of those guys that
dresses up to go see the movie or goes to
conventions (not that there’s anything
wrong with that). It’s just that it’s
something I’ve grown up on, and I can’t
wait to see the finished product. I doubt it
turns into the disappointing finish that
Seinfeld was. Whatever they do with it, it
will probably have fans screaming and
begging for episodes 7-9, if there is such
a thing.

On November 14th, 1974, police
recieved a frantic phone call that led
them to the DeFeo residence, where
they made a grisly discovery- 6
bodies, the entire DeFeo family, all
slaughtered with a .35 caliber as they
slept calmly in their beds. Ronald
DeFeo confessed to methodically
murdering his parents and four
siblings, and claimed it was the
"voices" that told him to do it. One
year later, on December 18, 1975,
George and Kathy Lutz along with
their three children moved into the
house, thinking it was going to be
their dream home. Especially if their
dreams were nightmares. The Lutz
family only lasted twenty eight days in
their home after they were terrorized
by a demonic force that drove them
away. Based on the true story of
George and Kathy Lutz, The
Amityville Horror remains one of the
most horrifying haunted house stories
ever told - because it actually
happened.

Batman Begins is a new restart of the
"Batman" franchise under the helm of
"Memento" Director Chris Nolan and
more in tone with the early "Batman:
Year One" style comics. As a boy a
young Bruce Wayne watched in horror
as his millionaire parents were slain in
front of his eyes, a trauma which led
him to become obsessed with revenge
but his chance is cruelly taken away
from him by fate. After disappearing to
the East where he seeks counsel with
the dangerous but honorable ninja
cult leader known as Ra's Al-Ghul, he
returns to his now decaying Gotham
City overrun by organised crime and
dangerous individuals manipulating
the system whilst the company he
inherited is slowly being pulled out
from under him. The discovery of a
cave under his mansion, and a
prototype armoured suit leads him to
take on a new persona, one which will
strike fear into the hearts of men who
do wrong - he becomes, Batman. In
the new guise, and with the help of
rising cop Jim Gordon, Batman sets
out to take down the various nefarious
schemes in motion by individuals such
as mafia don Falcone, the twisted
doctor/drug dealer Jonathan 'The
Scarecrow' Crane, and a mysterious
third party that is quite familiar with
Wayne and waiting to strike when the
time is right.
